Project car number 001

This is Project car number 001. An Aston Martin DBS with chassis no DBS/5630/R RHD that was built in NewPort Pagnell in 1969. It’s an original RHD, with the options, power steering, Picco Horns and original Radiomobile. The car has been restored to its original colour, Olive Green. This was the same colour as the Bond car in the James Bond film: ‘’On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’’.  This is the first car handed over to us from a gentleman in The Netherlands for a full restoration. The restoration of this Aston Martin DBS has been completed.

This is a series 2 car, this means the louvres on the rear side of the car ( series 1 cars ) are gone and replaced by one underneath the rear window. A frontspoiler has also been installed and the sills are wider. These changes were also adopted onto the DBSV8 models.

This car is a model with the 4 liter 6 cylinder 3/SU carburetors that are fully overhauled and provide good power and a pleasant drive. At David Bruin Services we have made the conversion from an automatic gearbox to a 5 speed Tremec manual gearbox. This makes driving with this car much more fun and provides a great handling. The 6 cylinder DBS cars are the best Astons regarding weight and handling performance. This DBS has been completely restored with a nice trim Strawberry red leather interior and a speed gauge that has been converted to Kph with the correct transfergear.

Regarding the history of the car: As far as we can trace it back, the car was delivered at the London Aston Martin dealer, H.W Owen who then sold it in august 1970 to a gentleman, Mr Thompson from Herefords. This gentleman drove the car for about 7 years until 1977 ( miles 34635 ). One other recorded owner was a mister Jeffrey John Langfield. He drove the car from 1977 until 1987. After that, it was sold to a gentleman named Kareem Osmani from London who owned the car until 2002. The car was then exported to a gentleman in Switzerland who is a collector in classic cars. He took the car apart with the intention to restore it, but parked the car in a corner due too many other projects. A gentleman from the Netherlands purchased the car in 2016 to start a long term restoration. That is the how the DBS 1969 ended up at David Bruin Services.

David Bruin Services BV has completed a nut and bolt restoration on this 1969 Aston Martin DBS. The car is available, contact us for more information.

The Aston Martin DBS, a grand tourer made by the British car manufacturer Aston Martin. The DBS was produced between 1967–1972. The backstory of how the DBS came to life is an interesting one. In 1966, Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera had been commissioned to design the DB6 replacement. The design house created two DBS prototypes before it went out of business. In order to get the project over the line, British car designer William Towns was brought in to design the new car. Although the DBS was envisioned to be the successor of the Aston Martin DB6, both were produced simultaneously for three years. The DB6 ran from 1965 until 1971.

The DBS retained the six-cylinder, 3,995 cc engine, available in Standard or Vantage form as used in DB6. Initially, the plan had been to use an all new V8 engine, however this was not ready in time and therefore not used in the DBS before 1969. In 1969, the DBS was made available with the long awaited V8 Engine with the vehicle that we know as the DBSV8 (four-seat grand touring car). The design of the engine was the work of Tadek Marek. The DBS was a full four seater and was favoured amongst owns that required more interior space.

The use of the 4L engine was one of the reasons why DBS vehicles were fairly cheap a few years ago. The reason being that these were not fast cars (from 0-100 in 8.5 sec with SU carbs) in the time that Aston Martin cars were known for being swift cars.

The Aston Martin DBS was the second AM to star in the James Bond film series. The DBS was famously driven by James Bond (George Lazenby) in the film: ‘’On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’’. The only film in which Bond got married, although, with a tragic ending.

Aston Martin DBS cars are excellent investment opportunities and especially the ones that have been restored. At David Bruin Services, we think that the best DBS cars are the ones that have been restored.
